Prosthetic Artificial Limbs Project Syria

Thank you from Mohammad Yousef Al Rahal

Help are now working along with a Syrian Prosthetic and limbs clinic to give people a chance to be able to walk again.

Why did we choose this project

A friend of HELP recently had his leg amputated. It was difficult to accept what had happened. He was very social and outgoing and I could not understand how he would be the same after his amputation. Learning from his struggles, I now understand the difficulties and trauma amputation brings. Now that i have had the opportunity to educate myself about Limb loss, I understand it isn’t just about getting a prosthetic limb but there is a lot of rehabilitation involved.

Facts: According to a report from United Nations, 1.5 million Syrians are living with permanent impairments caused by the conflict in the region.

Around 30,000 people are injured monthly in Syria due to the war outbreak, leaving many people with limbs being damaged so badly that they need to be amputated. Many are left with an amputation without any further support due to a lack of access to proper medical support or physiological support and are left excluded from society. There are approximately 86,000 amputees in Syria and increasing due to the current crisis.

HELP Charities team on the ground are here to help give these people the right medical care, support and a prosthetic limbs along with rehabilitation. This allows them to join society and give them a meaning to life again.

Our prosthetic limbs are individually custom made to the patients need. Once the right fit has been made we then provide them with full rehabilitation support until they are comfortable to  continue with everyday life.

Each persons support package costs £1000.00. This includes; a custom made Prosthetic leg and the rehabilitation required in order to re adapt back to daily life.
